What is the primary source of our misery? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today so that we may work on ourselves.
Whether he be a king, a farmer, a millionaire or a pauper, everyone has to face five types of kleshas (miseries). The first of these is Avidya Klesha, i.e., the misery of ignorance. On account of attachment to the body (Dehabhimana), losing one's self-confidence, considering the body to be real and eternal, man undergoes much trouble to nourish it. And as the education being imparted today is only for one's physical upkeep, it is nothing but another form of avidya (ignorance). Such an education cannot be called Atma-vidya. In order to sustain the body, man aspires for so many things. If he fails to procure them, he gets frustrated, which in turn leads to depression and misery. Man suffers because of excessive associations and attachments. This is why I have been cautioning you to reduce body attachment to an extent. This body is responsible for both misery and happiness. Body consciousness (Dehabhimana) is required, but first develop Atmic Consciousness (Atmabhimana), and then you can experience body consciousness, it is not wrong. Man is subject to misery because he completely forgets Atmabhimana and makes Dehabhimana alone one's goal.
